Scott Cemetery
Also known as Montbrook Cemetery
Morriston, Levy County, Florida, USA
The Scott Cemetery is across the road from the Sistrunk Cemetery in Levy County. From Williston, take 41 South 4.0 miles to CR 529. Turn right, go approx. 1 mile. Cemetery on right. Scott is on left side of the road and Sistrunk on the right.
From Toni C. Collins, Dir.
Levy County Cemetery Assoc., Inc.:
The two cemeteries are side-by-side and divided by a rock wall. The 911 address is 18951 SE 2nd Street, Montbrook, Florida (1/4 miles west of US 41).
The cemetery located at 18951 SE 2nd Street, Montbrook, FL that is name the "Scott Cemetery" is actually called the Montbrook-Sistrunk Cemetery.
From Jeff LeVines:
Since 1929 this location has been referred to as the Monbrook Cemetery by four generations of my family and countless others. My greatgrandmother was the second burial here and my grandfather the third. So you can see my interest in preserving the accurate history of this location.
As an additional note, there were two churches in Montbrook at a time when it was larger than Williston. One of those churches stood on the lot between the Montebrook Cemetery and the road and some of its foundation were still visible in the late 1990's. I only SUSPECT the past location of one of the churches.
In addition, the name Montebrook as a former town will one day disappear along with the 2 signs on US19 if there are no historical reminders.
I talked with an elderly resident who reflected on the property, and she is definite in her recollection that a church was located on the roadside of these cemeteries. In fact, her father used it for storage as it was abandoned. She added that a school building was nearby by not at that location.
So....who is correct? Folks even spell it differently
