the railroad tracks in the center of CAIRO and now are on South Broad Street. Your last traffic light
will be 4th Avenue SE/SW (which is also HWY 111). CROSS & continue straight on South Broad Street thru
this light. As you pass the south city limits, the street becomes Hadley Ferry Road & you have traveled 2.5 miles from the
start.
As you reach 3.2 miles from start, you will reach a 4-way stop intersection of Pine Park Road & Hadley Ferry RD. Continue
straight on Hadley Ferry RD. Travel 3.7 miles more, crossing Little Tired Creek and you will see small lakes on either side
of the road as it curves.
Watch for a closed metal gate on your RIGHT. This is the entrance to the cemetery, and must often be reached on foot, particularly if the gate is locked. A slighty steep dirt road path leads uphill for about 40 yards to the cemetery.
At the gate, you will have traveled a distance of 6.9 miles from the start.
This easily missed gate/entrance is within half a mile or less
of the intersection of Hadley Ferry RD and Midway RD, which if you travel too far, you will meet another stop sign at that intersection and may need to make a U-turn and travel back north roughly one-half mile to find the cemetery entrance.
History:
Malachi Collins purchased land in 1868 and
moved his wife, Eliza Sellers Collins and their
9 children from Cairo to this place. Cemetery
is on the hill in front of the home place.
