|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
From the intersection of Highways 236 and 234, go north on Highway 236 for half a mile to Bethel Church Road. The cemetery is on the south side of Bethel Church road about a tenth of a mile from the intersection. Originally the cemetery had a brick wall around it. Burials date from the 1820's and 1830's to as late as the 1980's.
This is a well kept old church cemetery which at one time belonged to the Bethel Church. Bethel (circa 1820) and Ebenezer in Great Mills are the oldest Methodist congregations in Saint Mary's County. Around the time of the Civil War, Bethel left the Methodist Episcopal Church and joined the Methodist Episcopal Church South ["Southern Methodists"]. After the 1939 Reunion, the Baltimore Conference closed Bethel and Dentsville Methodist Episcopal South churches and merged them into the La Plata which now La Plata United Methodist. Janet Tice's book calls this cemetery "LaPlata United Methodist (Bethel)"
