Villers-Cotterêts is a commune 22 kilometres south-west of Soissons and 32 kilometres east of Compiegne. The communal cemetery is on the Rue Maurice Bourdon, not far from the town train station.
The family of French writer Alexandre Dumas (père), author of "The Three Musketeers" and "The Count of Monte Cristo," is buried here. Dumas himself was buried here until 2002, when his body was moved to the Pantheon in Paris.
