|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
The Hackney Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church was founded in October 1899. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2000 following a Middle Tennessee University survey on historical rural African-American churches. While no longer in regular use, the building is still used for annual services including Decoration Day and Christmas.
The cemetery extends along the ridge adjacent to the church building.
A 1939 WPA survey indicated 109 unmarked graves, and a 1980 survey indicated as many as 200 unmarked.
