Aaron was my uncle and he was the BEST!

Aaron Thomas of Coos Bay, Oregon died February 23, 1996 of cancer. He was diagnoised of colon, stomach, and liver cancer in May 1995.

Aaron was the son of John Henry Thomas and Minnie LeVerne (Smith) Thomas. He was raised and educated in Oneida, Tennessee.

Aaron served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He received a purple heart from a combat wound.

After his enlistment, Aaron returned to Oneida, Tennessee, where he married Elsie Lowe. The young couple left Tennessee and relocated to Glendale, Oregon. They had two daughters Lois Jean and Judy Lynn Thomas. In 1960, Aaron and his family moved to Coos Bay, Oregon where he worked for Weyerhaeuser Company until he retired in 1988. In 1962, Aaron and Elsie's daughter, Judy, tragically, died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. I don't think my uncle ever healed from the loss of his daughter. Shortly after the marriage ended in divorce.

Aaron married a second time to a woman from Charleston, Oregon in 1965. They had one daughter Verna Kay.

He enjoyed traveling and visiting with his family and friends. He visited his daughter Lois when she lived in Oregon, California, and Washington; his niece, Susan in Maryland; family in his homestate of Tennessee. Aaron was a generous, kind man who is missed.

Aaron was a wonderful son. For the last ten years of his life, prior to being diagnoised with cancer, Aaron took care of his elderly mother, Minnie. He saw to it that she had a home and he provided for her. When she would introduce Aaron to people, she would say, "This is Aaron, my middle boy."

He is survived by his mother Minnie LeVerne (Smith) Thomas Bryant Kidd, of Myrtle Creek, Oregon; wife Ramona Thomas of Coos Bay, Oregon; two daughters Lois Foster of Federal Way, Washington and Verna Thomas of Ocean Park, Washington; two brothers Gabriel Thomas of Knoxville, Tennessee and Cleo Thomas of Myrtle Creek, Oregon. Five grandchildren Crystal, Tonya, Denise, Christina, and David: several nieces and nephews who love and miss their Uncle Aaron.

Aaron was preceded in death by his father John Henry Thomas, infant brother Joseph Thomas, and 3 1/2 year old daughter Judy Lynn Thomas; 6 half brothers, Willie, Charlie, Sylvester, James, Issac, and Calvin Thomas, 4 half sisters: Cordelia Thomas Cecil, Glitha Thomas Cecil, Lizzy Thomas West Davidson, Rilda Thomas Burke.

My uncle loved going on vacations and traveling. He always like to travel with his family and go to see family. He enjoyed stopping along the way and visiting parks, caves, and famous landmarks. He often told me that the back seat was the best seat in the car. I didn't understand that when I was a kid, but now I know exactly what he meant. He made several trips from Oregon to Tennessee by car and Oregon to Maryland by plane. I am very fortunate to have had Aaron for my uncle. He truly was the best!

Aaron was cremated and his ashes are buried at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Myrtle Creek, Oregon.
