Jean Besen 1913 - 2002
Aunt Jean was my paternal grandmother's oldest sister. There were four of them all-together, and when they were alive, they were always all together. Aunt Jean was married, but widowed before having any children, so she was never 'mommy' or 'grandma'... just Aunt Jean.

If there is one thing everyone remembers about Aunt Jean it's that she had opinions. She shared them. At my brother's wedding she told me how fat I had gotten. The first time she met my mom, who was seventeen at the time, she pinched her breast and said, "Oh, they're real!" She once told my brother that he "spoiled the picture" because he looked "like a monster... worse than a monster!"
With all her wit and wisdom, she is the person in our family who you can be sure to laugh about when telling a story about her.

Her passing marks the end of her generation in our family. My dad is now the old man at age 57. I guess that makes my brother and I the adults in the family.

Aunt Jean passed away in her sleep early Sunday morning, June 16th, 2002 at home in the Bronx. She was 88 years old. She was laid to rest in Cedar Park Cemetery in Paramus, NJ this morning.
