World War I veteran US Army signed up through Ohio National Guard with his friends and neighbors,was a machine gunner at Muesse-Argone, France. on July 27, 1918 he was severely injured at the Battle of Aisne-Marne. He was a member of the 42nd Rainbow Division under Gen John (Blackjack)Pershing and Major Douglas MacArthur. Born and raised at 9264 Sharrott Road in Beaver Township (Woodworth/North Lima) (Poland, Ohio PO Box), came to Cleveland after discharge from Army WWI stayed with Uncle John and Aunt Bess (Margaret) Cover on Shale Ave in Cleveland (later on E. 109th Street) while he had multiple surgeries at the Veterans Hospital downtown Cleveland, Ohio. He had many surgeries to remove schrapnel received in France. He liked the big city, married and stayed until his death. Was a telephone company lineman in Mahoning County; started with the phone co. in Cleveland, then power and light electrician, worked at the Alcoa Plant on Harvard Rd in Cleveland prior to 1943; finally at the Cleveland Cadillac Tank Plant (now the IX Center south of the airport) where he was an electrician in the power house.He was hired there in 1943 and worked there until his death in 1960. Suffered with lung cancer for 9 months. Was at his sister Emeline Flickinger's home in Poland, Ohio, got sick and had to be rushed back to Veterans Hospital in Cleveland where he was for 3 weeks until death. Husband of Mary Margaret Gallagher, father of Robert Eugene Cover (Catherine L. Allen) of Warren, Michigan, Donna Marie (Walter Deighton) of Cleveland,OH, and Marilyn Ann Cover of Cleveland. Grandfather of eight: Thomas, Robert, Gregory and Karen Cover and David, Mark, Mary and Anne Deighton. Preceded by his parents Sylvanus and Catherine Cover of North Lima/Poland and a half sister Margaret Palmer 1885-1918. They lived at 3847 west 42nd Street nr Dennison and Fulton. They bought the house in September of 1929, 1 month before the banks closed signalling the start of the great depression. He lived there from 1929 until his death in 1960. Mary lived there 1929 until her death in the living room in 1971. Their daughter Marilyn lived there her entire life from 1932 until her passing in 2006.They could have walked away like many other people in those times but stuck it out and paid their house off. He rode his motorcycle from the 1920's and 1930's when he was in an accident which landed him in the hospital. He promised his wife he would never buy or ride another motorcycle after this. And he never did. Awarded the Purple Heart for the injuries he sustained.
