Emily Inez T. Sollar, of North Charleston, entered into the wondrous Kingdom of God February 12.

Emily was the only daughter of the late Stephen Young and Willie Pearl Martin Thompson and had two brothers, Wilbur and Ralph Thompson.

She graduated from Girls High School in Atlanta, Georgia and married her one true love, James "Jimmy" J. Sollar, Jr., all in the same week, June 7, 1936 and was happily married for almost seventy years. Emily was a wonderful homemaker and her life centered around her husband and three children, that she raised in North Charleston.

She had a servant's heart and her devotion to her husband, family and Lord was evident to everyone she met. She enjoyed creating clothes for herself and her daughter and was a fabulous Southern cook, always looking for new recipes to try. In 1963 Emily went to work at the Charleston Naval Shipyard and was the Security Clerk for the Supply Department at the time of her retirement in 1976.

"Miss Emily" was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and was a fifty-year member of the Double Dozen Birthday Club. After her retirement, she enjoyed traveling and was passionate about journaling - a hobby of writing in her notebook daily. She was also an avid reader and, with her husband, would go weekly to the Cooper River Memorial Library for many years. She was a member of the Rebecca Motte Chapter of the National Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) where she served as Historian and Recording Secretary and was also a longtime member of Park Circle Presbyterian Church (since 1946).

Surviving, in addition to her loving and faithful husband Jimmy, are daughter, Carole Sollar McBride and her husband, Tom McBride of Dallas, TX; two sons, James "Jim" J. Sollar, III of Charleston and Robert "Bob" Stephen Sollar and his wife, Loretta Sollar of Manassas, VA. She was known as MiMi to her four grandsons: Thomas J. McBride and Robert H. McBride of Dallas, TX and Stephen B. Sollar and Kevin C. Sollar of Manassas, VA, along with three great-grandchildren: Thomas Lucas McBride, Kira Ann McBride and Rainey Kern McBride all of Dallas, TX.

She will be remembered for her devotion to her family and God and will be missed deeply by her family and all she touched.
