This Buford cemetery is located in Thompson’s Station, in Williamson County TN. It is part of the Bridgemore Village community, close to Pantall Road, off Critz Lane. It lies on land originally settled by James Buford, Sr. (1746-1811) before 1805.

James Buford, Sr. bequeathed his homestead and the cemetery to his son Edward Buford (1787-1828), who in turn bequeathed it to his children. William Wirt Buford (1818-1888), the only living son of Edward Buford, lived and died on the homestead and many of his children as well as his two wives were buried at this cemetery.

After William Wirt Buford’s death, the homestead and cemetery was passed down to his son Charles N. Buford (1854-1921), who bequeathed portion of “the farm”, including the cemetery, to his nephew, Edward Buford, Jr. (1892-1962), son of Edward and Lazinka Elliston Buford. Charles N. Buford’s Will, dated 22 APR 1921, in Nashville TN, specifically called for the building of a “substantial fence” around the graveyard, and for Edward Buford, Jr. (1892-1962) to pass on the land and cemetery which he inherited from his Uncle Charles to his children.

Edward Buford, Jr. married Clara Payne, and had a daughter, Elizabeth Elliston Buford (1931-1972), who married John Dudley Warth. They lived in Florida. It is unclear at this time if she inherited the land and cemetery, and how it came to be part of Bridgemore Village.

The cemetery has been recently restored by Buford family descendants, with the much appreciated help of the Bridgemore Home Owners Association. All of the graves found with markers have been fully documented in the attached memorials and photos. Other individuals may have been buried at this cemetery without markers, or perhaps with markers which have been lost over time.
