Description -- This cemetery is an abandoned and extremely neglected cemetery. It has been allowed to overgrow completely in brush and trees, etc., and the marker stones are said to be badly damaged, knocked down, and overgrown. The entries in this cemetery are from an Allen County cemetery canvassing that was taken about 1980.
History -- When John Evans brought his family to his claim, his baby died en route. A spot on the hill north of his cabin was selected for the baby's burial. Other burials followed. This site later became part of the Vezie farm. It was fenced off separately, and the Vezie's allowed people of the community to use it as a cemetery. It was considered to be the cemetery of the Carlyle Presbyterian Church. However, title was never taken by the church. In 1982 the property belonged to a Mrs. Mary Lenski. In 2007, it belonged to a Mr. Lewis.
Location -- Carlyle Cemetery is Located 4-1/2 miles north, and 1/4 mile west of Iola, Kansas, in the Southeast quarter of Section 27, Township 23, Range 18 East
