This cemetery was established in 1662. It was the only burial ground for more than 2 generations, but there is no documentation of those early burials. The oldest headstone here (and in the town of Middleborough) is that of Elizabeth Vaughan.

The Massachusetts Historical Commission refers to this cemetery in MACRIS as MID815.
