St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery and Mausoleum is the largest Catholic cemetery in the Diocese of Sacramento County . It was established in 1928 and consecrated by Bishop Robert Armstrong in 1929. There are 70 acres of both developed and undeveloped land at the cemetery with the focal point being St. Mary's Mausoleum, a beautiful church-like structure built in 1934. St. Mary's is the last resting place for over 65,000 faithful departed. Several separate cemeteries are adjacent to St. Mary's and managed by St. Mary's including: the Russian Orthodox cemetery, the Sacramento County Veteran's cemetery, and the Sacramento County cemetery. The grounds of St. Mary's include a variety of upright monuments, flat headstones, niches both indoor and outdoor, and crypts also both indoor and outdoor. The are several statues in various locations on the grounds, the largest being statuary depicting the Crucifixion not far from the church-like mausoleum. Recently, a impressive new administrative building and Chapel Columbarium were built near the corner of Fruitridge and 65th.
