The Emmanuel Cemetery did belong to the Emmanuel Church which was built in 1891. The church closed in 1985.
In 1890, an acre of land was donated by John Philipp for a cemetery. The congregation previously had a cemetery in Fraser Township in section #5. The current location of the Emmanuel Cemetery, is in section #25 in Fox Lake Township. The oldest stone in the cemetery is that of Luella V. Jagodzinske, who died on June 11th, 1882. Luella was 1 year and 9 months old at the time of her death.
A stone of a child was moved from Fraser Township to the Historical Society, but disappeared when moving the Society from the court house to the present building.
At one time the graves of a Swarty family were enclosed by a fence. As there was no fence around the acre and with cattle grazing on the prairie, they didn't want cattle tramping on the graves.
