The church began in 1868 on a small lot next to the already established cemetery. The lot was donated by several families with it being noted that a place of worship and school was to be built for the "colored" people. Originally apart of the Bladensburg Circuit, it became part of the Laurel charge in 1893. The original log church was destroyed by fire and in 1901 a new church was built and more land was purchased. In 1965 the church became part of the Baltimore Conference and was made a Station church on June 6, 1976.

The cemetery is across the road from the church and slopes down a hill. It is the final resting place of many blacks who worked the Iron Furnace and lived in what was known as Rossville. Many graves are unmarked and only marked by field stones, crosses and cement stones.
