Metropolitan United Methodist Church is one of the oldest churches in Charles County beginning with twenty worshipers in homes shortly after the Emancipation Proclamation. The first church known as Methodist Episcopal Church was built in 1868. Later in the late 1880's the church was renamed the Price Chapel church after the leader, the Reverend Charles Price.
The first church at the current location was built around the turn of the 20th century and was named the Metropolitan Methodist Episcopal Church. The new church structure was built in 1976 about a mile NNW of Pomonkey MD. A multipurpose room was completed in 2002. The church celebrated the 125th anniversary in 1992.
Location: From 495 Beltway take exit 3A to Rt. 210 (Indian Head Hwy, south). Follow Rt. 210 for about 15 miles to Bryans Road, MD. Go through the intersection of Rt. 227 and continue for about 1/4 of a mile and take the 1st available Left on Metropolitan Church Road. Continue approximately a quarter mile, church is on the right. Cemetery is behind the church.
