Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery was started in 1864 by and for the members of the congregation of Immanuel Lutheran Church, located at that time on Caroline Street in Baltimore City.
The congregation consisted mostly of German immigrants. The cemetery is located in the historic Lauraville neighborhood in northeast Baltimore. This area was made up family farms. and many these old families are buried in Immanuel Cemetery. The chapel was built by the congregation in 1870 and is still used today. The house on the property, built in 1890, has been the home of many caretakers through the years.
