Also known as Greenwood Memorial Gardens, this cemetery is located on Rough & Ready Hwy just west of downtown Grass Valley. Main Street becomes Rough and Ready Highway. It is adjacent to Saint Patrick’s Cemetery to its east. They share a fence.

Greenwood consists of many different, well cared for Gardens, which are Endowed Sections, as well as several older Blocks that are Non-endowed areas.

Mortuary Records show folks have been being interred here since at least 1867. However, the oldest known marker still erect is a monument belonging to young John Adams, who died in 1864.

History shows people immigrating to the area from the eastern states as well as England, Ireland, Scotland and Germany to seek their fortune in gold.

Information for this cemetery can be found at Doris Foley Historical Library and Hooper and Weaver Mortuary in Nevada City.
