Sunnyside Cemetery sits on the location of the first wooden Forks of Cheat Baptist church which was established on 5 November 1775 at the intersection of current Route 119 and Stewartstown Road (County Road 615) in what is commonly called Sunnyside, WV. Very old records indicate that burials at this site were in the Forks of Cheat Baptist Church cemetery.

Years later a new, brick Forks of Cheat Baptist Church was constructed several miles away on Stewartstown Road in Stewartstown and a cemetery was also established at this new location adjacent to this newer church. This new cemetery is also referred to as Forks of Cheat Baptist Church cemetery.

Records exist that indicate some individuals are buried in Forks of Cheat Baptist Church cemetery when their actual tombstone can be found in what is now called Sunnyside Cemetery. It is not known when the named was changed from the original Forks of Cheat Baptist Church cemetery to Sunnyside cemetery.
