Pine Grove Church was established in 1878, a sign over its door once read "Pine Grove Methodist Espiscopal - 1878."

The land where the old church once stood and the cemetery was donated by William Poffenbarger.

Pine grove was a large church originally built of hand-hewn logs that measured up to twenty-two inches wide and thirty-five to forty feet long. In later years the church was sided over the logs. It had three glass windows in either side as well as a bell tower. The church members took up a collection to purchase a bell from the K & M Railroad. The bell now hangs in the Beech Hill United Methodist Church.

After the acres surrounding the church and cemetery the Pine Grove community was forced to dissolve its church and school because of its members being forced to relocate. The Pine Grove Cemetery Association purchased the cemetery, but the lot on which the church stood reverted to William Poffenbarger's heir. All that remains today are the front steps of the church and a few corner stones. (2014)
