Talbird Cemetery is located within the gated community of Hilton Head Plantation on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. The cemetery can be visited if you stop at the Hilton Head Plantation security gate and ask for a pass to the cemetery.
Talbird Cemetery is an African-American cemetery around since the first half of the 1800s, though no one knows the date for sure according to an online source, and is still used for burials today.
A complete photo documentation of all readable tombstones was conducted November 23-24, 2011 and includes one burial conducted on the morning of November 23, 2011.
Special recognition should be given to Mr. Charlie Sinatra, a resident of Hilton Head Plantation, whose home overlooks Talbird Cemetery. Mr. Sinatra has taken on the task of clearing the cemetery of underbrush, straightening many of the leaning tombstones and attempting to reassemble many of the broken tombstones from tombstone pieces found throughout the cemetery. Mr. Sinatra has done a wonderful job and has expended many hours of his personal time in this effort. He was in the cemetery diligently working during both days of the photo documentation.
