Providence Methodist Episcopal Church Cemetery South
Providence Methodist Episcopal Church South (Abandoned) – Saluda, SC; the land for this church was deeded to the Trustees of Providence Methodist Episcopal Church, South on June 30 1853 by Wilson Holstein and wife, South Carolina Holstein.
The church was an active place of worship until the late 1920's when the Methodist Church South and Methodist Church North became the United Methodist Church.
The church once was located off of HWY 178 outside of Batesburg, SC. It was a rectangular frame building measuring 55' X 30' with a seating capacity of 250 people residing on two acres of land.
It is said by locals that the church was taken down and the lumber was used to build and repair homes in Batesburg during the Great Depression.
The Providence School that was built on the same property stayed and active until the early 1940's. The original school house is still on the property and was a private residence until the mid 1990's.
