The building that stands here on the western bank of the Keowee River was built in 1850. The area was once known as the town of Pickens Court House, which served as the county seat for Pickens County from 1828-1868. The seat was moved to Pickens, SC since it was more centrally located to the rest of Pickens County. Many years later the county lines were changed and this area became part of Oconee County instead. It is adjacent to the Oconee Nuclear Station operated by Duke Power. Please do not add a cemetery to Pickens County for any missing entries; it is only 300 yards from the county line but it is definitely in Oconee County.
