Directions: From the caution light in the center of Bayou Chicot, go north on US Hwy. 167 toward Alexandria. The sign for Vandenburg Cemetery is a short distance beyond the caution light, on the right side of the road. This area covers six or seven acres, and is very unusual in that almost every group of burials or family plot has individual chain link fence. In some cases, one or more sides of an individual fence might join another, while other fences are totally separate. These individual fenced areas make the upkeep of the cemetery extremely difficult, although it makes the identification of family members very easy. There are very large cedar trees scattered throughout the cemetery, some of the largest in this area. Some have been cut and only the very large stump remains to indicate the size of the tree. Mabel Thompson in her book "Looking Back, a Narrative History of Bayou Chicot," published in 1983, gives a brief history of this cemetery. By Mary Parker Partain and Jane Parker McManus, Oct, 2000
