The inscription on the Cemetery Monument reads: Elizabeth Chapel Cemetery Site Of The First Episcopal Chapel In Vernon Parish. Built In The 1850's By Elizabeth Lott Martin Faircloth. The Earliest Marked Graves Dates From 1860. Buried Are State Representative Mark McAlpin, Vernon Parish Sheriff William H. Moore, Clerk Of Court Zachary Taylor Craft, And Rapides Parish Police Juror and Member Of The Whig Party Rees Washington Smart. Also Buried Here, LT. Rees Judson Smart Murdered During The War Between The States By Jayhawkers. After Vernon Paris Was Formed The Chapel Service As A Public School Known As Elizabeth Chapel.
