The cemetery of Congregation Sha'aray Tefilev (Gates of Prayer# opened in 1853 in what was then Lafayette City #before annexation by New Orleans). With approval of the Rabbinic Council, grave sites recently were scanned and tombstones removed from those that were determined to be empty. The removed stones were placed near the fence at the edge of the cemetery
