The county boundary of Cattaraugus and Erie Counties goes right through the center of the Village of Gowanda, so Gowanda sits in two counties. Pine Hill Cemetery is located in the Erie County portion, sitting on the north side of Cemetery Hill Road, adjacent to Holy Cross Cemetery.
"Established in 1867, Pine Hill Cemetery is located on a beautiful site overlooking the Village of Gowanda, New York, on land donated by Joseph Plumb.
This lovely Victorian cemetery contains many interesting and artistic markers and monuments. Some of the headstone dates predate the cemetery itself. This occurred when graves were moved from the Presbyterian Cemetery on Rt. 62 (Sand Hill) to this location.
The map shows the general layout of the cemetery by section. Sections J and K, (Cremation Garden) are under development".
