The cemetery, originally encompassing 12 to 14 acres, was consecrated on August 20, 1876 under the auspices of Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Church on Warren Street in Trenton. The main entrance was located on South Olden Avenue but was changed to Cedar Lane some time after 1990. Since opening, the cemetery has been expanded to encompass 35 acres and continues to be administered by the Diocese of Trenton. The cemetery office maintains the records of the neighboring Saint Stephen's Roman Catholic Cemetery on Clover Avenue, Trenton.
