On the banks of the River Tweed, the Abbey was established 1150, with the arrival of the first Abbot, Roger on 13 Dec 1152. In 1322, it was burned by English troops, restored to be burned again in 1385 by Richard II. It flourished in the 15th century only to be finally destroyed in 1544.
