The Berggarten is part of the Herrenhäuser Gärten. The Mausoleum was built between 1842 and 1847 for King Ernst August of Hanover and his wife Queen Friederike. The Architect was Georg Ludwig Friedrich Laves who also planed other buildings in the park. When the Leineschloß (Castle at the Leine river) was reconstructed in 1957 the sarcophagus' of eight members of the guelph family were brought from the Castle Church to the mausoleum. The Mausoleum is not opened for the public.
