Driving down rural Pixley Road, Palmyra, Michigan, in the full bloom of summer, you would never realize a cemetery graces part of a road-side field. Unmarked but for a small gate, it is surrounded on all sides by tall bushes and taller trees. Through the gate you will find a well-kept graveyard, tended, presumably, by a nearby farming family (see photo of back entrance). Around one third of the stones are not readily readable, with quite a few being worn smooth or nearly buried. Many are tiny, little more than a brick, with initials carved in the stone, with no nearby family marker to help identify them. Although the last burial appears to have been in the 1930s, a few of the graves are freshly decorated.
