This cemetery is near the New Hope Church and has served the needs of the Afro-American population from 1902 until present. It is located in the southwest quadrant of Red River County, Texas and is located 1 mile south of Detroit on FM 410. A deed dated 17 Dec 1883 and filed for record on 4 Sep 1884 in Book CH Vol 7 Page 307 for 2 acres of land on Guest Prairie from H. C. Bailey et ux to New Hope Baptist Church. A later deed dated 8 Sep 1888 and filed for record on 4 Jun 1897 in Book CH Vol 33 Page 113 for 1 acre of land on Joseph Guest survey from J. B. Whitfield et al to New Hope Baptist Church. The oldest marked burial is that of Ervin Taylor who died on 25 Oct 1902. On a HOT 7 Sep 1998, this cemetery was surveyed by Lawrence and Sue Dale, adding additional burials, some due to new stones erected on older graves. Due to a fairly thorough cleanup of the cemetery we re-surveyed this cemetery on 12 Jan 2000. We have visited here several times as the years go on. We visited the site again on 20 Dec 2003 and took the GPS readings. We also did a re-walk of the cemetery adding new burials and noting marker changes. As of 31 Dec 2004 this cemetery had 200 documented burials.
All information for this cemetery location/notes is from the books ‘Burial, Cemetery and Death Records for Red River County, Texas' by Lawrence and Sue Dale, Copyright © 2005.
