It all began in 1871, not at Mountain View Cemetery but down the road at Trinity Lutheran Church, about a half mile away. A Presbyterian minister was called in to perform a funeral service at the Trinity Church. During the service the minister made several inappropriate comments against Lutheran doctrine. This caused the congregation to adopt a resolution to admit only Lutheran preachers to its pulpit. Some members disagreed with the resolution and left to form a new church up on the hill. It was called Mountain View Chapel. Along with it was the formation of a cemetery also called

Mountain View. The church remained there until around 1950 when it was torn down leaving only the cemetery. It is a sad story since many families were split up with part of a family being buried in Trinity and the ones who died after 1871 buried in Mountain View. An example of this is David Yount. He died during the Civil War in 1863 and is buried in Trinity. His parents David and Catherine and the rest of his family are buried here in Mountain View.

The cemetery is in the southwest corner of the intersection of Round Hill School Road and Rockfish Road (Rt. 865).
