This cemetery was one of three cemeteries moved from their original locations by the Army Corps of Engineers as they would have ended up under Granger Lake upon the completion of the Laneport Dam.
The Corps purchased a 3 acre site adjoining the Granger Bretheran Cemetery and moved the interments and gravestones from those cemeteries to that site, located about one mile East of Granger on highway 971 and just South of the Granger Bretheran Cemetery.
The other two cemeteries were Allison Old Friendship and Beard. Directions: from Highway 95 at Granger go East on FM 971 9/10 of a mile to CR 348. Turn right (South) on CR 248 and the Machu Cemetery is located 1/10 of mile on the left along with the Beard & Allison Old Friendship Cemeteries.
The Machu Cemetery, at the old location, was started by Pavel Machu when he saw a woman driving a wagon with her husband's body in it. She needed a place to bury her husband and Paval generously offered her space on his land and the unknown man became the first burial in what became known as the Machu Cemetery. The deceased's name is unknown and his remains are under one of the many "Unknown" flat monuments in this cemetery.
