Search Lower Willow Creek Cemetery:

The Lower Willow Creek Cemetery is on the north bank of the Llano River in Mason County, TX and near the mouth of the Lower Willow Creek. The early settlers in this area were mostly German immigrants, many of whom knew hardly anything about making a living in open country, much less on a frontier where they often had deadly encounters with Indians who were also in this area. My listing of this cemetery is from some of my own records, visits to the cemetery, the ‘Mason County Historical Book’, the book ‘One Hundred Years of the Hilda (Bethel) Methodist Church and Parent Organizations’, and the book ‘Mason County Graves and Cemeteries’. Most of which can be purchased from the Mason County Historical Commission - Phone: 325-347-6583
Email: janell@ctesc.net By these records, the oldest burial would be that of Joanna (Lehmberg) Leifeste in 1854. According to the book on the methodist church, Rev. C.A. Grote began visiting his members (of the Methodist Episcopal Church South) along the Llano River in 1852. The Lower Willow Creek Methodist Church (a rock building) was built across the creek from the cemetery in 1868.
