Final resting place for Simon and Elizabeth Street and dozens of their descendants. Simon Street was the patriarch of the Street Family in the Toe River Valley area of NC and also in Carter County and Unicoi County, TN. Simon Street (born 1772) married Elizabeth (Clingman) Street of Rutherford, NC. Simon was the son of Thomas Street and Lucy Street of Virginia and the Grandson of Anthony and Elizabeth (Brockman) Street of Virginia. Anthony Street DAR Record #A133723.
Simon and Elizabeth were buried on their homeplace. The Mitchell County plantation stood atop a hill on Big Rock Creek. His original two story log home on his plantation, consisting of eight to ten rooms, in Burke County, was still standing until the 1950's.

Simon Street was one of the petitioners for the formation of a new NC county, to be called "Yancey" founded in 1833. Yancey County, NC was named in honor of Bartlett Yancey, a U.S. Congressman (1813-1817) and speaker of the NC Senate (1817-1827).
