On 06 August 1902 Sacred Heart Parish, West Tarentum, Allegheny Co., PA purchased a six-acre tract of land in East Deer Township to be used as a parish cemetery. The cemetery was blessed in September 1903, and was located on Tarentum-Culmerville Road (now Bakerstown Road), 1½ miles from East Street in Tarentum. The cemetery was a part of Frazer Township when it was created, but has been a part of Tarentum Borough since 1948 when part of Frazer Township was annexed to Tarentum.

St. Clement's Parish cemetery was established in 1909 on land adjacent to St. Peter's Cemetery. Prior to 1909 St. Clement's burials were made in Sacred Heart Cemetery, which accounts for Slovak burials in the cemetery.

There is a St. Peter's division located in Mount Airy Cemetery, Harrison Twp., Allegheny Co., PA that was set aside and blessed when the public cemetery was laid out in 1917.

St. Peter Parish was founded in 1887 in West Tarentum, Allegheny Co., PA. As the immigrant German population grew in the area Sacred Heart Parish was established in 1896 as a German parish. Later St. Clement Parish was founded in 1903 as a Slovak parish. These three churches were all located within a two block area of one another. In 1969, with a declining population, Sacred Heart and St. Peters were merged to form Sacred Heart-St. Peters Parish. A new church was built and dedicated in 1972. By 1992 another merger took place and Holy Martyrs Parish was established by merging the two parishes in Tarentum, St. Clement and Sacred Heart-St. Peter.

The land for this cemetery was acquired 8/6/1902 with 5.633 acres
