A tract of three acres was purchased by John B. Purcell, the Catholic Bishop of Cincinnati in 1837 for use as the St. Augustine church cemetery. This cemetery was one of the few Catholic places of burial in northwest Ohio during this time. Deceased Catholics from the surrounding area were buried here with those of the parish. Irish catholic canal laborers were brought here for burial from 1838-1842. There are many unmarked graves from the Cholera outbreaks, the most severe in 1849. Information taken from "Pilgrims All; A history of St. Augustine Parish."
The cemetery is located in Jackson Township, Auglaize County, Ohio, and is # 774 (Minster Cemetery / Saint Augustine Cemetery, Saint Augustines Cemetery) in “Ohio Cemeteries 1803-2003”, compiled by the Ohio Genealogical Society.
The cemetery is registered with the Ohio Division of Real Estate and Professional Licensing (ODRE) as St Augustine Minster Cemetery with registration license number CBR.0000982998.
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) feature ID for the cemetery is 1045400 (Saint Augustines Cemetery / Minster Cemetery / Saint Augustine Cemetery).
