The verse inscribed on the tomb of Hugh B. and Bridgit (Cavanaugh) Mongan is from the religious song, "What a friend we have in Jesus." It reads as follows:

Nothing in our hands we bring
Simply to the cross we cling,
Naked we come to Thee or dress
Helpless look to Thee for grace,
Foul we to the fountain fly,
Wash us Saviour or we die.

Family lore has it that Hugh Mongan was buried in the Indian Cemetery. The Catholic church in Poygan was not completed until 1861. The work was delayed because of the Civil War. After the war, the church was completed and Hugh was exhumed from the Indian Cemetery and buried in consecrated ground. He is the first person to be buried in the cemetery at St. Thomas Aquinas Church Cemetery.

The Mongan family has incorporated and holds a family
re-union and Mass at St. Thomas Aquanis Church in honor of family every other year.
