The ST.ROSE CATHOLIC CEMETERY is located on the north side of Coon Road about seven-tenths of a mile west of the Monroe city limits. The cemetery is on a hillside overlooking the Shafer Creek Valley to the south. A metal archway with the name of the cemetery frames the entry gate and a large wooden cross stands in the center of the burial ground.
The cemetery was established about 1885, a short time after the St. Rose Catholic Church was built. It is the only Catholic Cemetery in Benton County, outside of Corvallis. The cemetery has never been platted with the county. Buried here are the Wilhelm's, a prominent Monroe family, who were largely responsible for the construction of the Catholic Church in Monroe.
Earliest marked grave is: Catherine Knebel, 1865-1888.
Update from Catholic Church records presented to South Benton Communities Museum 2004. North rows are uphill from the upper cemetery road.
