Friedens Lutheran Church was started in 1756 and became Friedens Union Church in 1798. It was also known as the Little Schuylkill Church and the Schuylkill Church. The cemetery is sometimes referred to as the Schuylkill Cemetery in some church and pastoral records. The church edifice is now used by the Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church.

The Main Section of the cemetery is to the right of the cemetery road and next to the church. It contains burials starting in the late 1700s into the 1900s. The oldest burials are generally within the first 18 rows. The Main Section is very hilly and becomes progressively steeper towards the top of the hill making it rather difficult to transverse. The South Section is a relatively level area to the left of the cemetery road. It contains burials starting in the 1900s and the latest burials.
