Friedens Lutheran Church was started in 1756 and became Friedens Union Church in 1798. It was also known as the Little Schuylkill Church and the Schuylkill Church. The cemetery is sometimes referred to as the Schuylkill Cemetery in some church and pastoral records. The church edifice is now used by the Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church.

What is known as the Older Section is the area to the right of the gravel cemetery road and next to the church. It contains burials starting in the late 1700s into the 1900s. It is very hilly and becomes progressively steeper towards the top of the hill making it rather difficult to transverse. The oldest burials are generally within the first 18 rows. There is a gap of about 20 feet between Row 43 and Row 44 about where the ‘second hill’ begins. The very last row is 66. What is known as the Lower Section is the relatively level area to the left of the gravel cemetery road. It contains burials starting in the 1900s and the latest burials. There is a large gap between Row 26 and Row 27. The very last row is 52.
