Four acres of land for the Cemetery was donated and deeded to the Douglas/Douglass Family by John Daniel Douglass in 1864, at the time of his first wife's death, same being Rebecca Jane Houston Spillers Douglass, and she is the first person known to be buried here. She was a niece of Gen Sam Houston. This information submitted by Frances Scott Davidson of Crockett, Texas, assisted by Mrs Ruth McDougald for the 1st addition Houston County Cemtery Book 1977.
Sometime around 1963, a son of John Daniels, Richard B (Dick) Douglass, deeded 1/2 acre of land to Mexicans from the Murray Farm for their use to bury their dead. Many unidentified graves are outside the enclosure in the woods and underbrush.
