The Heath family became part of the burgeoning methodist movement sweeping through the area. The following is from the "History of Bethany United Methodist Church" of Girard, written ca. 19179, for the 150th anniversary of the founding of the church in jan. 1830.

"The oldest record declaring the spot on which Bethany United Methodist Church now stands to be used for a church is a deed written jan. 30, 1830. This deed calls for four acres of land given by Moses Mulkey (ed note: he married Elizabeth Wimberly, believed the sister of Christiana, Jordan's wife.) to trustees for the purpose of building a methodist church. The trustees involved were: Homer V. Mulkey, Mark Lively, Benjamin Mobley, Matthew Lively, Jordan Heath, Matthew Godbee, Henry Heath, (Jordan's son) and William Buxton (whose first wife was Jordan's daughter, Rebeca.) A Cemetery was established on the grounds...Josiah Heath was the first person to be buried there. His body was interred in this cemetery in the year 1838. In 1840 Jordan Heath was laid to rest there, also. He was one of the original trustees and the only Revolutionary War Veteran to be buried in Bethany Cemetery.
