The first Decoration Day Service at Grant Cemetery was held when there were only seven soldiers buried there. J. W. Robinson was the first Commander of the local G. A. R. Post which preceded the march to the cemetery. There was also an organization called the Sons of Veterans who joined them. The Civil War Soldiers of 1861-1865, was at the Methodist Church which stood south of the cemetery at the site of the old town of Grant. They joined the procession led by Elisha Morlan who carried the flag.
As of 2018 we have accounted for 132 Veterans that have been buried at the Grant Cemetery.
We still carry on the tradition of honoring our past and current Veterans with music, a reading of the past Veterans names, and a speaker. We gather on Sunday before Memorial Day, weather permitting.
