Add PhotosThe land was donated by Frank Blanchard during the Spanish flu epidemic for temporary use while awaiting a permanent cemetery. Hence it was nicknamed the Blanchard Cemetery. Use was ceased when Lake Saskatoon Municipal Cemetery came into use, and several burials were moved to the new cemetery. Only four burials remain.
As stated on the cemeteries sign: "This cemetery was established in 1918 when the Asiatic flu was taking its toll of hardy pioneers. Many of these early cemeteries were created of necessity by lack of roads and mode of transportation. The last burials occurred about 1922 when the Lake Saskatoon municipal cemetery came into being. Many pioneers gave of their time and comfort assisting when they were needed most."
