Add PhotosThe Shaarey Shamayim Jewish Interfaith Cemetery (SSJIC) and the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery (SZC) (indistinguishable on this service prior to August 2023) share this property. They have a rich and beautiful history and are managed by the Congregation Shaarey Zedek.
The original cemetery (SZC) was built in the early 1900s and is dedicated to the beloved memory of all Jewish victims of both World War I and World War II, who offered the supreme sacrifice of their lives.
Shaarey Shamayim Jewish Interfaith Cemetery opened in early 2012 in a separate, fenced area within the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery, with its own entrance. Shaarey Shamayim was created for Jews who wish to be buried with their non-Jewish spouse, partner or other family members.
Many changes and enhancements have been made throughout the years to make your visit as pleasant and comfortable as possible. Our long-time staff, tend to the grounds with the utmost respect and dignity, to preserve the atmosphere of peace and tranquillity your loved ones deserve.

Additionally, the non-profit Jewish Heritage Centre of Western Canadacentralizes, curates and makes available extensive records from various groups related to the communities established by the families of their faith who contributed to the story of Western Canada. Their website offers a search feature and includes images (subject to copyright) and other records of many markers in cemeteries located in Winnipeg and across Western Canada.
Also of note: The Congregation supervises the cemetery known as "Children Of Israel Cemetery" located near Plessis Road and Almey Avenue in the East Elmwood neighbourhood of the city, near the neighbourhood formerly known as Transcona. That cemetery is no longer the site of new burials and is locked, available only for supervised prearranged visitation. The guidance provided above also applies to this related location.
