The kibbutz was established on August 16, 1949 by the veterans of Company D of the Yiftach Brigade of the Palmach, who were joined by a group of Holocaust survivors who underwent training at the Beit HaShita as part of the youth immigration. Initially, the kibbutz was called "Peled Group", but then, following the first anniversary of the fall of the Jewish people, when many bereaved parents visited the kibbutz, its name was changed to 'Netiv HaLamed-Heh'.
