Harrison's Chapel was the first church to be formed in Murray County Georgia other than the Spring Place Mission the Salem Moravian's established in 1801 for the Cherokee Indians. In 1835 Reverend Nathaniel Thomas "Nathan" Harrison III and his brother Jeremiah Harrison who were circuit rider Methodist preachers, moved from their father Reverend Nathaniel Thomas Harrison II church "The Harrison Bell Chapel" in Buncombe County North Carolina to the newly formed county of Murray in Georgia and established Harrison's Chapel to preach to the Indians. Less than a year later the Indians were moved out to Oklahoma on the trail of tears. Harrison's Chapel remained until 1909 the church disbanded, and the property sold. However, the cemetery remained intact to this day.
