Saint-Jean-Port-Joli Ancien Cimetière (2e)

La paroisse de Saint-Jean-Port-Joli est érigée vers 1721. En 1738, une première chapelle est construite sur les terres de la seigneurie Port-Joly.
Le projet de construire une église remonte à 1756 quand le seigneur, Ignace Aubert de Gaspé, réserve un terrain à cette fin. On entreprend les travaux de construction en 1779 selon les directives de l'archevêque de Québec, monseigneur Jean-Olivier Briand, et le lieu est ouvert au culte en 1781.
Ceci est le deuxième de quatre cimetières de Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, il fut ouvert en 1781 et fermé en 1883 — il jouxtait le mur nord de l'église
Les trois autres sont :
1- Le premier cimetière 1738-1781 il était situé près de la première chapelle
3- Le troisième cimetière est nommé « Au-bord-de-l'eau » il est situé entre l'église et le quai
4- Le quatrième cimetière est nommé « Sous-les-étoiles », il est érigé le long de la route de l'Église, route 204 il a été ouvert en 1963.
The parish of Saint-Jean-Port-Joli was erected around 1721. In 1738, a first chapel was built on the land of the Port-Joly seigneury.
The project to build a church, dates back to 1756 when lord Ignace Aubert de Gaspé, reserved land for this purpose. Construction began in 1779 under the direction of the Archbishop of Quebec, Monsignor Jean-Olivier Briand, and the site was opened to worship in 1781.
This is the second of four cemeteries in Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, it was opened in 1781 and closed in 1883 — it adjoined the north wall of the church
The other three are:
1- The first cemetery 1738-1781, it was located near the first chapel
3- The third cemetery is named "Au-bord-de-l'eau" (At waters edge) is located between the church and the dock.
4- The fourth cemetery is named "Sous-les-étoiles" (Under the stars), is located on Route de l'Église (route 204) it was opened in 1963.
